Will the real Democratic Party of Illinois please stand up? Part 2
Will the real Democratic Party of Illinois please stand up? Part 2
By Carlos T. Mock
The Results are in:
In 2004 the Democratic Party Machine tried to impose Dan Hynes as the next Senator for the State of Illinois and the Jackson/Gutierrez branch of the Party was born (aided by a brilliant campaign by Senator Barrack Obama). Voters did not listen then and it has happened again.
Mangieri, hand picked by Madigan for the ticket because of geographical reasons went down by a large margin to Alexi Giannoulias, after a nasty, bitter, and costly campaign by the Old Democratic machine headed by Mike Madigan. David Erikson, who the Madigan machine slated for Appellate Court, is in a battle too close to call with Joy Cunningham the Obama/Jackson/Gutierrez favorite. Normally, a slated candidate just wins.
It seems clear to me that the new leaders of the Democratic Party in Illinois are the Obama/Jackson/Gutierrez coalition.
As in the rest of the country, other Democrats like me are fed up and want new voices and choices in the Democratic Party. Jackson, Gutierrez, and Obama are those new voices. And voters are listening.
